Govt taking final call on Regulatory Reform Bill

The government is taking a final call on Regulatory Reform Bill to bring the transparency in the procurement .This includes Public Private Partnership contracts also. Deputy Chairman of Planning Commission Dr. Montek Singh Ahluwalia today said that detailed discussions have taken place within the government for the final decision on the Regulatory Reforms Bill. Addressing a function in New Delhi,he appealed to the private sector to share their views so that government could take a holistic view before it is introduced in the Parliament. Articulating on the rationale for the Bill, which encompasses principles critical to the institutional design of regulation, he especially mentioned about the accountability of regulators to the parliament which is lacking at the moment. He also expressed concern over the uneven approach adopted by regulators with lack of cross learnings and sharing of knowledge across sectors. On the appointment of regulators, he opined that people, including experts from private sector, should be allowed to apply for the post of a regulator.
