External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said the government has taken up with the US government the matter of welfare of Indian Diaspora in that country. She was responding to supplementaries during question hour in the Rajya Sabha today. She said Indian embassy and consulates in the US are in continuous dialogue with US authorities and local Indian community groups to address any emergent issues relating to Indian Diaspora. She said there are no authoritative figures on the number of undocumented Indian immigrants in the US.<br/><br/>The Minister assured the members that government remains vigilant to development impacting the lives of Indians in US and will do everything possible to safeguard their interests and welfare. She said on the request by US enforcement authorities, Indian embassy and consulates in the US facilitate issue of travel documents to undocumented Indians after due verification of nationality, to enable their safe return to India.
