The government says many steps are being taken to protect the handloom sector in the country. Replying to supplementaries in the Lok Sabha, Textile Minister, Mr Dayanidhi Maran said his ministry is actively considering to import raw silk and give it to weavers. Mr Maran also said there is a plan to set up a mega cluster in Varanasi to boost silk production in the country. He outlined the government's marketing initiatives to sell more products of handloom weavers.
