Govt takes steps to check sexual abuse of children in orphanages

The government has taken several steps to check sexual abuse of children in orphanages. Stating this in a written reply in the Lok Sabha today, Minister of State for Home Affairs Mullappally Ramchandran said, all efforts are being made to ensure that all child care institutions are brought within the ambit of the Juvenile Justice (Care & Protection of Children) Act, 2000.

He said regular inspections are carried out in orphanage homes and CCTV cameras have been installed in most of the government- run homes. The minister said, directions have also been issued to such homes for girls to ensure that only female staff is employed and posted there.
