The Government has taken a series of measures to check adulteration in petroleum products. Official sources said, this includes automation of retail outlets, monitoring of movement of tank trucks and introduction of smart card schemes. To check diversion of superior kerosene oil, states and union territories have been asked to install GPS based vehicle tracking system on tank trucks, used for transportation.The consumption of petroleum products has increased by around 3% in the last fiscal and oil marketing companies are suffering a loss of 272 crore rupees daily on the sale of domestic LPG, diesel and PDS kerosene. According to official data, oil marketing companies have suffered a huge loss of about 65 thousand crores in the first six months of the current fiscal.
