Govt takes several policy initiatives under Make in India program: MoS for Defence

<span style="color: #222222;">The Government has taken several policy initiatives under the Make in India program and brought reforms to encourage indigenous design, development and manufacture of defence equipment in the country.<br />''<br />''In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today, Minister of State for Defence, Ajay Bhatt said these reforms and initiatives reduced the dependence on imports of defence equipment.<br />''<br />''The Minister said, many significant projects including 155 mm Artillery Gun System Dhanus, Light Combat Aircraft Tejas, Surface to Air Missile system Akash, INS Kalvari, INS Khanderi and Lakshya Parachute for Pilotless Target Aircraft among others have been produced in the country under Make in India programme in the last few years.<br />''<br />''He said, the Government, in the last three years has accorded Acceptance of Necessity to 150 proposals worth over two lakh 47 thousand crore rupees under various categories of capital procurement which promote domestic manufacturing.</span><br />
