Govt takes number of steps to remove deficiencies relating to cleanliness and maintenance at CWG

The government has taken a series of measures to remove the deficiencies relating to cleanliness and maintenance at the Commonwealth Games complex. The preparedness for the Commonwealth Games, beginning in National Capital on 3rd of next month was reviewed at a high level meeting in New Delhi on Tuesday. The meeting was attended by Delhi Lt Governor Tejindra Khanna, Union Cabinet Secretary K M Chandrasekhar, Principal Secretary to Prime Minister T K A Nair and Delhi Chief Secretary Rakesh Mehta. Addressing media persons, Secretary General of the Organizing Committee, Lalit Bhanot said before the arrival of players and delegates all cleaning activities in the Games village will be over. Earlier, Commonwealth Games Federation Chief Mike Fennel urged the authorities to take immediate steps to improve the condition of games village residential zone. Before Mike Fennel's observations, New Zealand, Scotland, Canada and Ireland had complained of sub-standard up keep and poor arrangements for the games.The Urban development minister Jaipal Reddy said that cleanliness is not a major issue. He insisted that the image of the country has not been affected by such questions raised by Mike Fennel. Meanwhile, the Home Ministry has directed the Delhi Police to tighten security in and around the national capital ahead of the Commonwealth Games.
