The government today supended the Indian Amateur Boxing Federation (IABF ) and de-recognised the Archery Association of India (AAI) for alleged irregularities in the conduct of elections. Announcing this at a Press conference in New Delhi Sports Minister Jitender Singh said Sports persons are the top priority of the government. He also said, India's sports code is the same as the Internanational Olympic Committe charter. A notice will be sent to the IABF to hold fresh elections within a period of 15 days failing which the de-recognition will be made absolute.An official release said, the Archery Association has violated the age and tenure restrictions prescribed in the Sports CodeThe President elect of the Archery Association of India had served for more than three consecutive terms in the past and is also above the age of 70 years.Sports minister Jitendra Singh said, the International Boxing Federation has suspended the IABF, pending enquiry into the elections. He said, the Government of India will open a dialogue with the IABF to set in place interim measures so that the athletes are not affected. The international Boxing Association had earlier suspended the IABF alleging possible manipulation in its recent elections.The development also comes within a few days of the International Olympic Committee suspending the Indian Olympic Association.
