Govt stressing on transforming urban India: Venkaiah Naidu

<br/><br/>Union Minister for Urban Development, Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation and Information & Broadcasting M Venkaiah Naidu today said that the government is stressing on transforming urban India. He said, the Central government has approved an investment of over 4 lakh crore rupees so far under new urban mission across the country for improving urban infrastructure for better living. <br/><br/>Addressing media, after reviewing various schemes with Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and other officers in Jaipur, he said that this is four times of the investments approved during the earlier ten years. He said that scale of central assistances has been substantially improved to provide more resources to urban local bodies. <br/><br/>Mr. Naidu said that government has already approved construction of 18.70 lakh affordable houses with an investment of over one lakh crore rupees which has already exceeded earlier approvals during 2004-14 by five lakh houses. <br/><br/>He said, over 38,000 affordable houses have so far been sanctioned for Rajasthan under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban, and Central government provides assistance in the range of one lakh to 2.40 lakh rupees per beneficiary under this mission. <br/><br/>The Minister said that Rajasthan is the first major state to have got smart city plans approved for all the four mission cities in just two rounds of competition. He informed that about 20 cities of the total 190 in the state have been declared Open Defecation free so far under Swachh Bharat Mission. <br/><br/>The Union Minister informed that work for setting up Waste to Energy plants in Jaipur and Jodhpur will start in August. <br/><br/>Earlier, in a meeting with media heads of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, he stressed upon monitoring of the cable network along with international border in the state to control unauthorized contents. <br/><br/>He said that high power transmission of Doordarshan programs will be started to improve the quality of broadcasting.
