As the investigation in the bomb blast in the Bangalore -Guwahati Express in the Chennai Railway station going on, police suspects that timers might have been used to trigger the Ammonium Nitrate bombs. Three persons are being questioned by the Tamil Nadu Police in connection with the blast. The blast occured in the S4 and S5 compartments of train which was passing through Chennai central this morning around 7.15 AM.
Meanwhile, Security has been intensified at major railway stations, bus terminus, malls across Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and other states in the wake of bomb explosions in a Chennai Railway station. The Tamilnadu police have also started with check up of vehicles coming in and out of Chennai. CISF today issued alert across all domestic and international airports in the country to step up security at these facilities in the wake of the Chennai blasts.
Two minor-intensity bomb blasts today morning rocked the Chennai Central Railway station claiming one life and leaving 14 others injured. A 22-year-old IT professional woman passenger, identified as Swathi, bound for Guntur was killed in the explosions. Railway sources said the parents of the deceased Swathi came from Andhra. The body would be handed over to the relatives formally after post mortem and will be taken to her native place.
President and Prime Minister condemned the Chennai railway station blasts. The President Mr. Pranab Mukherjee in a message to the Tamil Nadu Governor Dr K Rosaiah said, no efforts should be spared in bringing the perpetrators of the heinous attack to justice. Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh while condemning the blasts, said the act of the perpetrators, highlights their desperation and cowardice.
Various political parties have condemned the blasts. The Tamil Nadu government said the CB-CID would take up the case in coordination with the Railway police.
