The Centre will spend 49 crore rupees from Special Purpose Tea Fund set up to increase productivity through replantation and rejuvenation. An approximate area of 2 lakh 12 thousand hectares of uneconomic tea areas will be either replanted or rejuvenated under the scheme. During the 11th Plan, it is proposed to replant 56,795 hectares and rejuvenate 14,075 hectares respectively. Under the scheme, subsidy of 25 percent of the unit cost is provided by the Government. In addition, loan amounting 50 percent of the unit cost is provided from Special Purpose Tea Fund (SPTF). The balance 25 percent is to be borne by the beneficiaries. Financial assistance to the tune of 48 crore 69 lakh rupees has been provided towards subsidy under the Special Purpose Tea Fund (SPTF) Scheme since inception from 1st April 2007 to 30th November 2009.
