The government will bring soon a national food security bill. The draft bill aims at providing food and nutritional security to the people at subsidised prices.
The Minister of State for Food and Public Distribution, Professor K V Thomas said in a written reply in the Lok Sabha today that the draft bill contains provision for reforms in the Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS) including the leveraging AADHAR for identification of beneficiaries. He said that the bill will be introduced in Parliament after consultations with the states and union territories.
AIR Correspondent reports that the draft bill was referred to the Empowered Group of Ministers in July this year. It was already vetted by the Law and Justice ministry.
