Govt signs agreement with HPL to construct 50,000 houses in Sri Lanka

Taking forward its commitment to construct 50,000 houses for rehabilitation of the internally displaced persons, IDP, in Sri Lanka, Government has signed an agreement with Hindustan Prefab Limited in this regard. Under the agreement, HPL, which works under administrative control of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation, will undertake construction of 1,000 houses for the IDPs in Northern Sri Lanka under a pilot project. A government release said, each house, measuring 540 square feet, shall be constructed with locally available material.
