Govt. shows greater commitment for resolving insurgency problem in Assam: Gogoi

Assam Chief Minister Mr. Tarun Gogoi said his Government had shown greater commitment for resolving the long-pending insurgency problem in the State. Replying to the debate on the Governor’s speech in the State Legislative Assembly last evening, Mr. Gogoi reiterated that the doors for talks were open for any ultra outfit as long as they abjured violence. He said most of the militant outfits including the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB), Dima Halam Daogah(DHD), UPDS, KLNLF and the pro-talk faction of the ULFA had entered into ceasefire agreements during the present Congress Government rule in the State. On Opposition’s charge that the State Government and the Centre behaved in different manners on proposed talks with the ULFA, the Chief Minister denied it and said he would not stand on the way to ensure lasting peace in the State. Underlining the need for a sustained economic development, Mr. Gogoi said it could be attained only after resolving the insurgency problem. He said the State Government has given emphasis on employment generation through revolutionary changes in sectors of agriculture, trade and industry.
