Govt setting up strategic crude reserves across country

The Government is setting up Strategic Crude Oil Reserves with total storage Capacity of 5.33 Million Metric tonnes, MMT at three different locations in the country. These reserves will be set up at Visakhapatnam, Mangalore and Padur. In a written reply in Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas R P N Singh today said that this will enhance the energy security of the country with a storage capacity 1.33 MMT at Visakhapatnam, 1.5 MMT at Mangalore and 2.5 MMT at Padur. He also informed that a detailed feasibility study for construction of additional 12.5 MMT of crude oil storage at Bikaner, Rajkot, Chandikol and Padur has been entrusted by Indian Strategic Petroleum Reserves Limited to Engineers India Limited.
