The government has decided to set up three working groups of Chief Ministers to seek greater involvement of states to check the rising food prices.<br/><br/>The working groups have also been mandated to ensure effective nation wide distribution of food grains. <br/><br/>The decision was taken at the first core committee meeting of the Chief Ministers held in New Delhi on Thursday.<br/><br/>Briefing media after the meeting, Food and Agriculture Minister, Sharad Pawar said that the first working group on the agriculture production will be headed by Haryana Chief Minister, Bhupinder Singh Hooda while the second one on consumer affairs, by his Gujarat counterpart, Narendra Modi. <br/><br/>The third group will be led by Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission, Montek Singh Ahluwalia. <br/><br/>The three groups have been asked to submit their report in two months. <br/><br/>Addressing the meeting, the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh reiterated that the primary concern of the government is to insulate poor and the vulnerable from rapid rise in prices of food articles and called for increasing the food production.<br/><br/>This, he said, has not only to fulfill the current rate of consumption but also satisfy the food and nutritional needs of the country to pull the people out of poverty, hunger and malnutrition.
