Govt sets up Task Force to assure availability of generic drugs at affordable prices

Government has set up a taskforce to assure adequate availability of quality generic drugs at affordable prices to the people. The task force will also evolve policy measures to assure national drug security and promotion of indigenous drugs. Talking to reporters in New Delhi today, Union Health Secretary K Chandramouli said that the force will give its recommendations in coming months. He added that the ministry is committed to provide accessible treatment of cancer, diabetes and cardio-vascular disorders to the people. Mr Chandramouli also said that the Centre has asked the states for their suggestions on various details, including the cost of surgeries and other treatments as health is a state issue. He added that a revamped national programme for encumbrance and control of these diseases is being implemented in 100 districts across 21 states of the country.
