Govt sets up high powered Review Committee on Antrix-Devas deal

The high powered Review Committee, set up to examine the procedural lapses in the agreement between Antrix and Devas Multi-media on the allocation of S-band spectrum, will be submitting its report very shortly to the government. The two-member Committee, headed by former Cabinet Secretary Mr B K Chaturvedi was set up in February this year. It was set up to review the procedures and processes followed by Antrix, ISRO and the Department of Space for fixing the responsibility in certain lapses while allocating the spectrum. Responding to supplementaries during the question hour in the Rajya Sabha today, the Minister of State in the PMO, Mr V. Narayanasamy said that on receipt of the complaints on the implementation of the agreement between the two over S-band spectrum, the Department of Space had set up Dr B N Suresh Committee in 2009, to review the legal, commercial, procedural and technical aspects of the Antrix-Devas agreement. The minister said that the agreement was annulled on the findings of the Suresh Committee, which said that the spectrum was required to meet the increased demand for national needs including defence, para-military forces, railways and other societal purposes.
