The government has set a target of providing weather related information to 94 million farmers of the country by December 2018. Briefing reporters in New Delhi after chairing the meeting on future plans of his Ministry, Minister for Earth Sciences Dr Harsh Vardhan said, currently the weather related services through SMS are accessible to over 19 million farmers. <br/><br/>He said, the government is committed to provide accurate information about weather to all the farmers of the country.<br/><br/>He said, such information will help them planning their various agriculture activities including sowing of seeds, use of fertilizers and irrigation. Dr Harsh Vardhan said, as per the National Council for Applied Economic Research, such activities have contributed 50 thousand crore rupees in the GDP.<br/><br/>Dr Harsh Vardhan also said, the Ministry has also planning to provide the weather services to 8 lakh fishermen in the country in next two years. He said, the services are available to 2 lakh fishermen. The Minister also informed that the government will also provide customized forcaste at 300 tourists and pilgrimage sites
