Govt. sets target to provide scholarship to one crore minority community’s students

The government has set a target for providing the benefit of scholarship schemes to one crore minority community’s students in the next two years. Talking to reporters on the sideline of a function in New Delhi, the Minority Affairs Minister Salman Khursid said that 60 lakhs students of such community have availed the benefit of scholarship scheme run by the Minority Ministry so far. He said that the ministry creates the projects and extends assistance for minority communities according to the demands of states. He said that the states should implements these projects smoothly so that such communities can get the benefit.In reply to a question on Waqf Amendment Bill, Mr Khursid said that the Central Waqf Council will have statutory powers of monitoring and issuing directives and advice to state Waqf Boards once the Bill is passed in Parliament. The Bill is currently being reviewed by a select committee of Parliament.
