The Government has set a target of replacing all five lakh streetlights in the national capital by LED lights within a year. Power Minister Piyush Goyal said this at a function of signing of MoU in New Delhi Friday between South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) and Energy Efficiency Services Limited for LED Street Lighting. He said, the initiative would help save one thousand crore rupees over the period of seven years. The SDMC has two lakh streetlights in its area, which will be replaced by the LED.Mr Goyal also said that initially 100 cities in the country would be covered by LED lighting programme, which was launched by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said that the nationwide roll out of the programme would be completed in 3 years.
