The government of Bangladesh has taken up the sale of Onions at a subsidised rate of Tk 45 per kilogram to consumers in view of the sharp rise in the price after India put a temporary ban on the export of onions yesterday.<br />'' <br />'' The number of sales counter operated by the commerce ministry in Dhaka has been increased from &nbsp;16 to 35 to mitigate the problems of the consumers. Bangladesh has also imported onion from Myanmar. Consignment form Turkey and Egypt have arrived at the Chittagong port.<br />'' <br />'' Commerce Secretary Md. Jafar Uddin today assured the people that there was no need to panic as the adequate stock of onion is available and the import has also been ramped up.<br />'' <br />'' He also warned of strict action against business establishments which indulge in the hoarding of onions for profiteering. Onion prices have reported a sharp increase across Bangladesh. In Dhaka, it was selling at Tk 100-120 per kilogram today.<br />'' <br />'' Bangladesh has a demand of about 24 lakh tonnes of onion per year out of which 11 lakh tonne is imported.&nbsp;<br />'' &nbsp;<br />
