Govt. says, talks being held with representatives of Anna Hazare

Government is continuing talks with the representatives of Anna Hazare to finalise the modalities for constitution of a committee to draft an effective anti-corruption legislation. Third round of talks has begun with the government's points man and Union Minister Kapil Sibal. Before leaving for another round of talks, social activist Arvind Kejriwal said, the government should issue a formal notification for constitution of a joint committee for drafting the Lok Pal legislation. Swami Agnivesh described the beginning of talks as a break through and expressed optimism over the resolution of the issue. Anna Hazare has however rejected the constitution of an informal committee for the purpose. After holding two rounds of talks since Wednesday evening, Mr. Sibal told reporters that the talks are moving in the right direction. He appealed to Anna Hazare to break his fast-unto-death. The Minister said that the broad parameters for constituting the committee for drafting the legislation to deal with the menace of corruption have been agreed with. Meanwhile, Anna Hazare 's fast-unto-death on the Lokpal issue today entered the third day. Talking to reporters at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, he said, he is not averse to dialogue but insisted that such discussions should take place with those who have power to take decisions, be it Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi or Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. A large number of people joined Hazare at Jantar Mantar today to pledge their support for the agitation launched by him.
