The Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, V. Narayanasamy has said that the UPA government is making all out efforts to strengthen public services and make governance more accountable. Inaugurating the Biennial Conference of Commonwealth Association of Public Administration and Management in New Delhi on Wednesday, Narayanasamy said, the legal framework in India is being strengthened and the existing laws fine tuned to check corruption and ensure transparency and accountability in both public and private sectors.
The Minister said, the national laws including the Indian Penal code will be amended to make them more effective and match international standards. He said, the passage of the Public Procurement Bill 2012 introduced in Parliament would ensure transparency in the procurement process.
Narayansamy also said that the Association would play a leading role in extensive cooperation for transfer of human and financial resources, sharing of institutional knowledge and propagating information to strengthen the democratic fibre.
AIR correspondent reports, the three day conference is being attended by over 350 delegates from the Commonwealth countries. It will focus on the challenges of achieving national objectives for development, citizen-centric service-delivery and public administration.
