The Government has sanctioned 1.59 crore rupees for seven tennis players for their preparations for the London Olympics this year. Rising men's singles star Somdev Devvarman is the biggest beneficiary of the gesture by the Sports Ministry. He gets a lion's share of 87,000 USD for hiring personal coach and other training related expenses. Other beneficiaries are Doubles veteran Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi, Rohan Bopanna, Yuki Bhambri ,Sanam Singh, women's ace Sania Mirza, Isha Lakhani and Rutuja Bhonsle. PTI reports that the decision was taken in the review meeting of the preparation for Olympics, 2012, called by Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Ajay Maken in New Delhi today. All the players have been provided 6000 USD per month as financial assistance for meeting expenses for their training and competitions under NSDF.
