Govt. rules out privatisation of Railways

The government has ruled out privatisation of the Railways. In a post Budget interaction with newsmen in Parliament on Wednesday , the Railway Minister Ms. Mamta Banerjee said that railways have sought private partnership for the commercial utilisation of surplus land and air space. The Minister said no government land is being sold to anyone for any purpose. She said that a business model has to be put in place for optimising the revenues of the organisation and for that help of expert private partners is being sought. In reply to a question she said that the model double decker trains from Delhi to Kolkata will start running within six months.
