The government today ruled out introduction of sex education in school curriculum. In a written reply in the Lok Sabha today, the Minister of State for Human Resource Development, Dr. D. Purandeswari said after consulting the State governments and other stakeholders, her Ministry has introduced the Adolescence Education Programme at secondary and higher secondary levels.
It focuses on creating
awareness of the dangers of HIV/AIDS among adolescent students. It helps them acquire necessary life skills to avoid risky situations.
The Programme is being implemented by the Central Board of Secondary Education, CBSE, National Institute of Open Schooling, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan and Novodaya Vidyalaya Samiti in 30 States and Union Territories. The students are taught to develop a healthy and responsible behaviour, the Minister said.
