The price situation in the country was reviewed at a high level meeting in New Delhi today. The meeting decided to formulate a scheme for strengthening the State Civil Supplies Corporations with promotion in their efficiency and transparency. The meeting presided over by the Consumer Affairs Minister, Mr. K.V.Thomas also decided that the stock position with organised retail chains will be observed to ensure that stock is not contributing to the hardening of the prices. It was also decided in the meeting in which Cabinet Secretary, Mr. K.M.Chandrasekhar was also present that Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairy and Fisheries along with National Dairy Development Board will take steps to improve supply of milk and milk products. Our Correspondent reports that four regional conferences of Food Ministers and Secretaries are being held in the coming two weeks to review the measures taken by the State Governments on the price front and efforts to make public distribution system supplies transparent and more effective will continue.
