The government today said that it is the responsibility of Pakistan government to discharge its constitutional obligations towards its citizens, including those from minority community. Minister of External Affairs S M Krishna said in a written reply in Rajya Sabha, government has seen reports that some Pakistani nationals belonging to minority communities including Hindus, who came to India on valid visas have not gone back Pakistan on the grounds of religious persecution there.
Mr. Krishna said while the Shimla agreement between the two countries specifically provides for non interference in each other's internal affairs, on reports of persecution of minority groups in Pakistan, India had taken up the matter with Pakistan government.
He said that Pakistan government stated that it was fully cognizant of the situation and look after the welfare of all citizens, particularly minority community.
