In a major anti-corruption drive, the government has removed as many as 87 lakh job cards from MNREGA beneficiaries list.

Union Rural Development Minister Ram Kripal Yadav told PTI today that his Ministry had started a cleansing drive in September last year to check whether funds under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act were reaching the genuine beneficiaries.

He said, the drive is continuing, and so far 63 per cent of 12.49 crore job cards issued under MNREGA have been verified.
