The government today released new Solid Waste Management Rules today to transform India. The concept of partnership in Swachh Bharat has been introduced. Bulk and institutional generators, market associations, event organizers and hotels have been directly made responsible for segregation and sorting the waste and manage in partnership with local bodies. <br/><br/>Addressing media persons in New Delhi, Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar said, the new rules are now applicable beyond Municipal areas and extend to urban agglomerations and census towns. He said, the source segregation of waste is now mandated to channelize the waste to wealth by recovery, reuse and recycle. <br/><br/>Integration of rag pickers and kabadi walas in the formal system should be done by the State Government. The rules have been revised after 16 years. Being the nodal ministry for solid waste management, more responsibilities have been assigned to Urban Development Ministry.
