Govt reiterates its commitment to introduce strong Lokpal Bill in monsoon session of Parliament

The government today reiterated its commitment to introduce a strong lokpal bill in the monsoon session of Parliament and to arrive at a broad concensus on the anti graft bill issue. Briefing the media in New Delhi, Home Minister P Chidambaram said all political parties emphasised the primacy of Parliament and the primacy role of political parties in drafting the bill. The Minister said, all parties were of the view that what ever laws are made, they must be within the purview of the constitution. Mr. Chidambram said that the all party meeting was conducted in a very cordial atmosphere. He reaffirmed that the bill will fulfill the wishes of the vast majority of the people. The Minister said, the bill will be introduced according to established procedure. In a reply to a question, Mr. Chidambaram said BJP has reserved its comment upon the Bill until it is approved by the cabinet. He termed it a legitimate step. HRD Minsiter Kapil Sibal said that the government is firm on fulfilling its promise of tabling the bill in the monsoon session of Parliament and it is up to the members to approve it as soon as possible.Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal said the government is open to every suggestion from any body on the anti graft bill as it is committed for a strong Lokpal Bill.
