Govt reconstitutes GoM on Prasar Bharati

The Government has reconstituted the Group of Ministers, GoM on Prasar Bharati. This was stated by Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting C M Jatua in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha on Monday. <br/><br/>The group was set up to review certain recommendations of the Narayanamurthy Committee, formed a decade back to suggest measures for efficient functioning of the broadcaster.<br/><br/>The Minister said an action taken report of the various suggestions given by the committee was prepared. He said, since some of the recommendations required detailed consultations, the GoM was constituted to examine critical issues related to Prasar Bharati.<br/><br/>He further said that it has been decided to wait for the report of the reconstituted GoM before any action is taken on the remaining recommendations of the Narayanamurthy Committee. <br/><br/>Besides functional and financial autonomy for Prasar Bharti, the Committee had recommended that the CEO and other officials of the public broadcaster should be employed in it and not be on deputation from either the government or private agencies.
