The Home Minister said that the government has not received any concrete proposal from the Maoists, for holding talks, so far. Mr. Chidambaram renewed government’s willingness to hold talks with naxalites, if they abjure violence, lay down arms and give up their demand for sovereignty. Mr. Chidambaram also said, a dialogue with the ULFA can start only after they make a political statement, that it is ready for a dialogue. Responding to supplementaries in the Rajya Sabha, the Home Minister, said, so far they have not made any such statement. He reiterated the government’s commitment that laying down arms, abjuring violence and giving up the demand for sovereignty are essential for paving the way to hold talks.
