Govt ready for discussion on women protection issues: Naqvi

The government today said, it is ready for a discussion on issues relating to women protection. Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi gave the assurance to Rajya Sabha during Zero Hour. Raising the issue, Mayawati of the BSP said, atrocities against women including rapes and torture across the country are growing. <br/><br/>She said, in case of Uttar Pradesh, such incidents have become excessive. Ms Mayawati called for Centre's immediate intervention. Jaya Bachchan of the Samajwadi Party demanded a discussion on women protection without politicizing the issue. Ambika Soni, Rajni Patil and Renuka Choudhary, all Congress MPs, demanded a discussion in the House. <br/><br/>Responding to this, Deputy Chairman P J Kurien said, the matter is very serious. He said, the government is also ready for discussion. Naresh Agrawal of the Samajwadi Party reminded the Chair that his party colleague Jaya Bachchan had already given a notice for discussion on the subject a month back.
