Government is ready for any reasonable modification in the Nuclear Liability Bill. Participating in a TV programme last night the Minister of State in the Prime Minister's office Mr. Prithviraj Chavan said that the government is open to discuss any change in Clause 17(B) to address the conference of the opposition. In a related development, Congress spokesman Shakeel Ahmed said that the Nuclear Liability Bill is in the interest of the nation and is not a political issue. The main opposition BJP has said that the party cannot commit support to the Nuclear Liability Bill unless the changes are carried out. BJP spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy later told reporters that it is very difficult for the party to support the bill unless the government brings back original proposed legislation. Earlier, leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley who had discussions with Mr. Prithiraj Chavan said that BJP wanted restoration of language in Clause 17(B) suggested by the Parliamentary Standing Committee that examined the bill and then his party would think about its support.
