The government today put imports of pigeon peas or toor dal under the restricted category and fixed a quota for its inbound shipments. Directorate General of Foreign Trade said in a notification that the import shall be subject to an annual quota of 2 lakh tonne. <br/><br/>It said that this restriction will not apply to government's import commitments under any bilateral or regional agreement. India is the world's largest pulses producer. Toor dal constitutes 15 per cent of the total 22 million tonnes of pulses output.
