Govt provides fiscal incentives for promoting wind energy projects

Government is providing fiscal incentives for promoting wind energy projects in the country. This includes 80 percent accelerated depreciation, concessional import duties on certain components of wind electric generators, excise duty exemption and ten years tax holiday on income generated from wind power projects. In a written reply in the Lok Sabha today, the Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Dr. Farooq Abdullah said 14550 Mega watt wind power projects have been installed in the country till June this year. He said central electricity regulatory commission has been providing necessary regulatory framework for sustainable growth of wind energy. The Minister informed that most of the wind power projects are being set up by the private sector and highest number of 2346 such projects has been set up in Maharashtra and Gujarat is number two with 2259 such projects. Dr. Abdhullah said that his ministry has established 627 wind monitoring stations through out the country. Out of them 233 locations have found to be wind potential sites for setting up wind power projects.
