Govt. proposes to remove control on Petro products

After decontrolling the prices of petrol last year, Government proposes to gradually remove the controls on other Petro products. Inaugurating the 10th Petro India conference in New Delhi on Monday, the Minister of State for Petroleum, R P N Singh however noted that impact of free market on weaker sections of society, cannot be ignored and said that government has a huge responsibility in protecting their interests. He asserted that all options need to be explored for sustainable development models and bring Cleaner Energy technologies both on supply and consumption side. This, he said, is essential in view of the international pressure on emerging economies to reduce emissions. U N climate conference on Sunday struck a compromise deal on a roadmap for an accord that will for the first time, legally force all major carbon emitters to cut green house gas emissions. Referring to sustainability, the Minister said that Energy efficiency parameter and pricing will play a crucial role in helping progress in achieving the goals. Talking to reporters on the sidelines of the function, Mr. Singh urged well to do families to voluntarily surrender the facility of subsidised gas as it will benefit the common people.
