Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has said the government proposed to enhance reservations to minorities, not on the basis of religion but, on the backwardness. He clarified this on the floor of the State Assembly last evening while replying to the debate over the Appropriations bill 2017. He said the government is committed to enhance reservations on the lines of Tamilnadu while taking the population of various sections into consideration. <br/><br/>Stating that BC, SC, ST sections comprise about 90 per cent in the state, he said a special session of the state Legislative Assembly will be convened soon to take up the issue of increasing reservation for tribals and minorities. He also announced hike in students' mess charges which will result in an additional burden of about 120 crore rupees on the state exchequer and benefit over 18 lakh students across the state.<br/><br/>The Assembly and the Council were adjourned sine die after the two houses approved the Appropriation Bill 2017. The Assembly functioned for 13 days during which various issues were discussed for over 72 hours. Five bills were introduced, a total of 65 members participated in debates and discussions on various issues besides presenting two committee reports and CAG report.
