Government proposes to create biometric data base of all MGNREGA works and use it to stop the leakages. Addressing a function to mark the five years of the historic employment guarantee programme, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan hoped that it will help reduce instances of discrimination in work allocation, delayed payments and focus muster roles. Dr. Manmohan Singh said a major initiative has been put in place to strengthen grampanchayats. This, he said will focus more on left wing extremism affected districts and the districts where MGNREGA expenditure is above 100 crore rupees. Addressing the function, UPA Chairperson Mrs. Sonia Gandhi hailed the role of Rural Employment Guarantee Programme in arresting the movement of population from villages to cities. She also pointed out several deficiencies in the implementation of the programme and called for remedial measure by states and the centre.
