The government has proposed the setting up of a National Institute of Sports Sciences and Medicine for research and teaching to promote excellence in sports. Sports Minister Jitendra Singh said that the Expenditure Finance Committee (EFC) has approved the proposal and the institute will be set up in three years. It aims at catering information in sports science and sports medicine, prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of sports injuries. He gave this information in a written reply in the Lok Sabha .In reply to another question, the Sports Minister also informed about the government's plan to set up district-level sports schools across the country in the next ten years.
