Sports Minister Vijay Goel today presented cash award to the medal winners of RIO Olympics and Paralympics 2016 at a function in New Delhi. Gold medalists were given 75 Lakh rupees each, while Silver medalists got 50 Lakhs. Bronze medalists received 30 Lakh rupees each. Mariyappan Thangavelu had won gold medal in High Jump and Devendra Jhajharia in Javelin Throw in Paralympics. Ms P V Sindhu won silver medal in Badminton in Rio Olympics and Ms Deepa Malik in Shot Put in Paralympics. Ms. Sakshi Malik had won bronze in Wrestling in Rio Olympics and Arun Singh Bhati in High Jump in Paralympics. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Goel assured all the winners that government will leave no stone unturned in promoting and supporting the sports in the country. He said, government is trying to incorporate sports in the curriculum. However, P V Sindhu and Sakshi Malik could not participate in the event as they are busy with their national and international competitions. On behalf of Sakshi Malik her father received the award.
