The government is preparing a National Plan for movement of food grains in the country. Giving this information in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today, the Minister of State for Food and Public Distribution, Prof. K V Thomas said that the Plan is being prepared in consultation with the Food Corporation of India and the Railway ministry.
He said the government has prepared a draft scheme on computerization of Targeted Public Distribution System operations, digitization of ration cards data base for speedy delivery of food grains.
The Minister said that the total proposed outlay of the scheme is estimated over 4273 crore rupees under the 12th Five Year Plan on cost-sharing basis with states.
