Government has prepared a multi pronged strategy to double the exports to five hundred billion US dollars by 2014. Addressing the Consultative Committee meeting attached to his ministry in New Delhi, Commerce Minister Anand Sharma said that achieving this target is a challenging task keeping in view the global economic situation.
Anand Sharma expressed hope that 26.7 percent growth is required in this sector to achieve the target. He added that 41 new markets in Africa, Latin America and Central Asia have also been added for the purpose. This, he said will also help in addressing the challenges to economy by the present Eurozone economic crisis. He noted sectorial targets have been set up along with product and market strategy, keeping pace with technology and research and development besides building a brand image of products for impressive growth in exports.
