The government today said that it has prepared an action plan to promote the wind power generation in the country. In a written reply in Lok Sabha today the Minister of New and Renewable Energy Dr. Farooq Abduallah said that to attract foreign investment in the sector, the government is considering a scheme to provide generation based incentives over and above the tariff given by the respective states for power fed into the grid by wind turbines. He said that preferential tariff is also being provided to increase wind energy generation in potential states. Our correspondent says that at present wind power capacity of about 11 thousand mega watt has been installed and the target for the 11th Plan Period has been fixed at 9 thousand mega watt of wind power. The country has a potential of producing 48 thousand mega watt of power through wind energy. <br/>
