Govt plans to strengthen troop posts along the borders: HM

The Home Minister has said that the government is planning to strengthen troop posts along the borders and acquire modern weaponry and specialised vehicles for soldiers guarding the icy frontier. Speaking at the at the 48th raising day of the ITBP in New Delhi he said a reconstruction plan for the ITBP is under consideration. The Home Minister said under the plan, the ITBP will have 15 new battalions, three recruit training centres, a counter insurgency and jungle warfare school as also a high altitude medical training centre. Pointing out that the country is going through a difficult phase in terms of cross border terror, situation in Jammu and Kashmir, insurgency in North-East and left wing extremism in various states. Mr. Chidambaram said he is confident that the country has the strength and capacity to overcome these challenges.<br/>Later speaking to reporters the Home Minister said the Centre can advice the state governments to talk to Maoists if the ultras abjure violence. <br/>On terror funding, the Home minister said there are at least four cases where the intelligence agencies suspect funds have been used to finance the terrorist activities. <br/>AIR correspondent adds the union home ministry has prepared a comprehensive strategy to deal with the Naxal menace in the country. <br/> <br/>
