In a bid to make the process of applying for passports more convenient, the Government plans to set up 77 Passport Sewa Kendras (PSKs) and 14 mini-PSKs across the country in three phases. External Affairs Minister S. M. Krishna said that this will triple the number of passport counters to 1250. The PSKs in Bangaluru, Mangalore, Hubl, Chandigarh and some other places are already operational and the selection of sites for 25 more such kendras has been completed for Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.He said that in order to bring down the number of pending applications for passports, Monthly Passport Adalats will be introduced in all 37 passport offices across the country to speed up the process of issuing passports. The first batch of such Adalats will take place tomorrow.
