Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal has indicated that the government is planning to release more spectrum to telecom companies. Responding to a query whether the government will allocate more spectrum, he said that this is something the government is looking at. Sibal said, the Telecom Ministry is looking at releasing more spectrum soon. India is one of those countries which has lowest quantum of spectrum. Sibal also said that his ministry will soon send notices to the erring telecom companies that were issued licences along with spectrum even when they were not eligible. Sibal had earlier said that the memorandum of association and equity conditions were not fulfilled during the issue of licences and that the Ministry believed that some of the eligibility requirement for the same was not in place when these companies sought licences.
