Govt plans to reach 80% national literacy rate by the end of 11th five year plan

Union Minister of state for Human Resource Development D Purandeswari has emphasized the need to formulate strategies and programmes to achieve 80% national literacy rate by the end of 11th five year plan.<br/><br/>Inaugurating a National Conference on Vitalising Female Literacy – challenges of 21st century, in Hyderabad on Tuesday, the Minister of State has said in view of the multiplier social benefit that the country would get, the Government has been focussing on female literacy and aimed at making 6 crore women literate in the next 2 years. Stating that the National Literacy Mission has been redefined as the National Mission for Female Literacy to focus on empowering women in all aspects of life through literacy, the minister asked the State Resource Centres to work hand in hand with the state Governments to achieve the literacy goals.
